Feng Shui: Fame & Reputation

Having a good reputation can positively influence every aspect of your life: business, self worth, respect from others, you can get the credit you deserve, people will support you because they see you as valuable and you will learn to accept yourself better,

Even though the word "fame" is used here - it doesn't necessarily mean you want to be famous in the George Clooney sense. But, if you look at famous people and the paths they took to get to where they are, we start to see some common threads. Some people are famous for a lifetime of work (Mick Jagger) and some people are famous for one thing (think of any of our modern day gunmen who go on rampages). You can have fame and recognition for good things or bad things. For this exercise, I'm going to assume you would like to use yours for good. Likewise, if you already have a bad reputation, we will discuss ways to improve it.

So, how do you get famous? If I say I'm famous, am I? No, it takes others perception of you to bring fame. First, choose what you want to be known for - and then BE IT. While it takes time to build fame or a good reputation, by using feng shui you can speed the process along.

OBTAIN FAME & A GOOD REPUTATION

Fire - Fire is THE element connected to fame and reputation. If you can add fire to this area of your home, you can begin building a good reputation. Fireplaces, candles or lanterns should be used here (they do NOT have to be lit). If you have a fireplace here, add some water (maybe a red rose in a vase). The water and fire create steam, which is very powerful.

Stay away from using red lights in this area as that generally connotes with a bad reputation ("red light district).

Triangular Objects - Triangles symbolize fire, so triangular things in this area create fire for the subconscious. While cactus should be avoided in almost every gua of your home, they are welcome here. Likewise, weapons such as spears, harpoons, arrows or knives should also live here.

Wood - Wood feeds fire. Add wood to boost the element of fire in this area of your home, literally or symbolically. You can use wooden furniture, picture frames, treelike plants. Place your Christmas tree here for the holidays!

Green - Green symbolizes wood in feng shui. Almost anything green will do in this area.

Television - Who knew your tv placement could be good for you? Well, it's a fire symbol - so go ahead and put a tv in this area of your home.

Rectangular and Columnar Objects - Put your pictures on the wall in a vertical placement. Use an armoire or grandfather clock.

Items That Represent Fire - Matches, incense, gold stars, a picture of fire, a firefly or volcano. Anything that represents fire should go here.

Stained Glass - especially if there is red and green in it!

Animals and Things Made From Animals - Leather and wool work well in your Fame gua. Live animals are good here, too - put the dog's crate or the parrot's cage in this area of your home. Just be careful that any animals represented here should represent how you want to be characterized. Maybe avoid a cute picture of a mouse, weasel or snake here.

Plants - Wonderful area for plants.

Pictures or Memorabilia of Celebrities or People You Admire - If someone has a reputation that you want, put a picture of them here. However, if you want people to respect and admire you - you may want to avoid pictures of Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian here.

Recognition Items - Put all your awards here!

Personal Wish List - On a piece of red paper, write down everything you hope to gain from enhancing this gua. Write whatever you want people to think of you. Safely place this list somewhere in this gua - inside a book, taped to the underside of a table, wherever.

"Up" Stuff - Place anything (pictures) that symbolizes height here - mountains, birds, balloons, the solar system. You want people to look "up" to you.

Real Mountains - If you live somewhere with mountains, you're golden in this area.

TROUBLE SPOTS

Water - Water douses fire in feng shui. If you have a toilet, sink, tub or shower here, make sure to balance it by putting potted place in ceramic pots here (symbolize earth). This will help balance the water.

Black Stuff - the color black symbolizes water so get rid of it here.

Things That Symbolize What You are NOT About - Ironic or not, pictures of serial killers, sad clowns, or Dick Cheney can really bring your reputation down. Stick to pictures and symbols of people or celebrities you admire.

Mirrors - Since mirrors equal water, try to avoid using them here. A little water is ok (a small mirror). Use your best judgement.

Tip: If you have family photos resting on a mantle here, be sure to have a small symbol of water here. Without that protection, the people in the photos may be prone to fevers. I use a small vase with water in it here, but another idea is to use black matte against the photo since black symbolizes water.

In summary, the things you can do IMMEDIATELY to enhance your fame and reputation are:

  • Move any moveable water out of this area.
  • Add: fire, lights, red, triangles, wood, green, tv, stained glass, plants, pictures or memorabilia of celebs or people you admire, awards, your personal wish list
Things to get rid of in this area: water, black, things that symbolize what you're not, mirrors.

*In future posts I'll address what to do if you've been "dissed" or if you are specifically looking to be famous.
