The Entertainer: Welcome Guests

There's nothing I love more than having a house filled with guests. My friends all know that if a big get-together is suggested - I'll always volunteer to host. I beg my friends and family to visit me. Why? Well, besides the obvious - that I like My People, I also love to make people feel welcome.

There are so many easy ways to make your guests feel welcome. Spend 10 minutes thinking about who is coming and write down a few things you think that person would like. Recently, my friend Pi, who is a singer/songwriter came to visit us. She was just finishing up a tour. She was her own roadie, security, driver and the star of the show. I knew she would be tired and I knew she would be missing the comforts of home.

My first thought was that she would like a bath after a long road trip. Hotel tubs give me pause even when I'm at The St. Regis - so I knew a clean tub with fun girly things would be inviting to her.

Next step is to create a custom basket for guests. A lot of this stuff stays the same, but I do try to personalize a few things whether my guest is aware of it or not.

I'm a slippers girl. Nothing makes me feel more comfy than slippers. That said, I'm not someone who makes everyone take their shoes off in my home. I just like to give guests the option of slippers. These I buy in bulk from Alibaba.com. I have big plans to personalize some of these for frequent guests like grandparents.

This basket has everything you might need. From toiletries to magazines and medicines - I've got you covered. I belong to Birchbox and other sampling programs so I have tons of samples I hate to see go to waste. This is a chance to spoil guests that costs you nothing, you can purge and feel good about it.

All of my bathrooms have a secret stash of feminine products. I love "housing" them in unexpected, pretty ways. No one ever has to feel embarrassed to ask for a tampon at MY house!
Finally, in every bathroom of my home: Poo-pourri. It works. Use it!
